Dear Families and Carers,
Over the last 3 days we have welcomed 2 representatives from the International Baccalaureate Organisation, to ensure that the standards and practices of the programme are visible in our school. This IB Evaluation happens every five years. The visiting team delved into every aspect of Holy Trinity from its leadership and management to the rigour of our academic programs, to the ways in which our learners and parents are involved in learning. We thank all our wonderful teachers, support staff, students and parent representatives for their active participation in the lead up to the visit but also through their engagement in meetings across the visit. We will receive a formal report from the IB, however the feedback they shared with us yesterday highlighted the many things we can celebrate at Holy Trinity including our culture, community and teaching and learning programs.
Last Friday 3 Green shared their learning at assembly. The audience was captivated by the creative performance of their inquiry into How inequality affects opportunities. Through the lines of inquiry;
- The earth's natural resources
- The distribution of wealth
- Obligations to create an inclusive world
They shared their understanding of significance of the United Nations Global Goals and how we have a responsibility to seek opportunities for equality. Learners shared their topic talks and made comparisons between two countries, researching into homes, cultures, food and identity. They also created freeze frames of Sustainable Housing, Gender Equity, Sustainable Tourism and No Poverty. It was great to see and hear about the learning across Year 3's Unit of Inquiry.
Tomorrow, we celebrate with Year 1, all the Mothers and Mother figures in our lives at 2:30pm in the church followed by a delicious afternoon tea served by our Dads in the community. We hope all these wonderful ladies have a special day on Sunday with family and friends.
The Inaugural Community Council Meeting is on Tuesday evening, we look forward to seeing many you of at the meeting.
On Thursday morning we welcomed many new families through Holy Trinity who are looking to enrol their children for 2025. Our Year 6 leaders confidently led the tours and shared with these familes about the experiences of an IB education and our Catholic identity. We will be holding further Open Days on Monday at 9:30am and Wednesday from 4:30-6:00pm.
Have a restful weekend and remember to spoil Mum! (I hope my boys read this!)

Leaves, Leaves, Leaves!
With the turn of the season, children have been noticing and exploring the change in colour of the leaves on our trees. The children and educators have also been busy collecting the fallen leaves from our ELC playground. But, what should we do with all of these leaves?
Sam - "Put them in the green bin and for real life, the garbage truck can collect it. Not the one that collects cans and things... it only collects leaves."
Henry - "Put them in the compost!"
Edie - "Put them in here (pointed to the basket) and then we could glue them on here."
We will place our collected leaves
next to the ELC playground gate.
We would love for you to take some home
to place in your green waste bin or compost.
You might even like to do some glueing with them!

Welcome to Term 2. Please read below to keep up to date with all the things that we have happening in the library this term. Busy times.
Book Club:
Term 2 Book Club catalogues were sent home last Friday. There are loads of fabulous books to purchase, if you wish. Please remember that all ordering is done online via the Scholastic Book Club LOOP App.
Final orders need to be placed by Week 4, Monday, 20th May.
Book deliveries are staggered over the next few weeks, as I send off school orders every Monday.
CMRC:
The Chief Minister's Reading Challenge is open to all readers at HT until the end of Term 2. Each child needs to read 30 age appropriate books over a 15 week time frame. Please remember that the Chief Minister also recognises a short book review, of the completed book, as another book read.
Once a child completes the Reading Challenge they then deliver their completed form to the library. I then give that child a raffle ticket and pop a sticker on their name, on the class list display, in the corridor.
This week I received an email from the organisers of the CMRC to let us know that we have been awarded a visit from Stephanie Owen Reeder, one of the Canberra Ambassadors of the CMRC. Stephanie will be visiting the Year 5/6 classes in Week 4 - Tuesday, 21st May. Stephanie is a well published author and we have many of her books in our library.
NSS:
The National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) takes place this year on Wednesday, 22nd May - Week 4. It’s a very popular event, celebrating a fabulous Australian picture book, with participation numbers from all over the world of over 2 million.
This year we are celebrating the beautiful book BowerBird Blues by Aura Parker.
I have also booked the amazing Aura Parker for an author / illustrator visit to our school in Term 3.
To celebrate the NSS this year we are asking that the children wear blue clothes to school on 21/5. Stuffed toy birds are also invited to come on children's laps to the NSS celebration.
Between now and then, please also send in blue bottle tops to your child’s class as we are having a class ‘Design a BowerBird Competition’ to celebrate the NSS. The winning class gets a trip to the movies (in the library) at a date their teacher decides.
Last but not least…(if you are still reading, you are now super organised)
Book Week Celebrations 2024
We will start Book Week Celebrations in the Library, Week 9 of this term with the big parade planned Term 3, Week 5 - Wednesday, 21st August @ 9.10am. The theme for this year is Reading is Magic.
It is my favourite week of the year with lots of fun activities planned.
We have also been lucky enough to book in two author visits around this time.. The talented Aura Parker (as mentioned above) and the fabulous R.A.Spratt. If you get a moment check out their websites. R.A. Spratt also has a podcast that she releases on a Wednesday night - I have been told by the Williams boys that they love this podcast.
I think that’s it. You now know everything I know.

ACT Primary Swimming Championships
On Tuesday we had 5 Holy Trinity students represent our school and the South Weston region. Having been there it was terrific to see them compete against some of the best swimmers in the ACT. We congratulate Penelope and Rose Haselden, Jahla Negus, Justine Tran and Emma Ricketts on their achievements.
Rose Haselden was able to achieve a 1st place in the 8-Year-old Girls 50 Metre Butterfly, 2nd in the 8 Year girls 50 Metre Freestyle and 2nd place in the 8 Year Girls 50 Metre backstroke. What an amazing effort!
Athletics Carnival
Our Athletics carnival is next Week, Wednesday the 15th of May. Please see a timetable of the day. Remember, although unlikely, this timetable can change. Our carnival takes place at Woden Park. Please ensure students have their full lunch packed for the day, a hat, and a full water bottle. There will be no canteen facilities available at Woden Park or at school. I am still after a handful of volunteers to help on the day. Please email me if you can provide assistance between 9:45am – 2:00pm.
