Dear families and friends,
It has been so wonderful to see the way our students have returned to Term 3 with a spring in their step and an enthusiasm for learning. With stories of exciting holiday adventures the learners have enjoyed being back together with their classes.
This term we welcome the Austin family to Year 4 & Kinder, the De Matos Carnieto family to Kinder and the Sigdel family to Year 4. We know they will be very happy in our Holy Trinity community and please welcome them when you get a chance.
2024 Olympics
There is alot of excitement building around the 2024 Olympics in Paris. As an IB World School we have been researching countries and will be holding our own HT Opening Ceremony. Each class has selected a country of significance to their class and will be dressing in the coloiurs of their chosen country on Friday. We are looking forward to learning more about each of the countries across the next 2 weeks and sharing stories of perseverance, challenge and success.
International-mindedness is central to the IB mission and is a foundational principle to its educational philosophy.
International-mindedness is a view of the world in which people see themselves connected to the global community and assume a sense of responsibility towards its members. It is an awareness of the interrelatedness of all nations and peoples, and is a recognition of the complexity of these. Internationally minded people appreciate and value the diversity of peoples, cultures and societies in the world. They make efforts to learn more about others and to develop empathy and solidarity towards them to achieve mutual understanding and respect (Oxfam 2105; UNESCO 2015).
Our learners at Holy Trinity have a range of perspectives, values and traditions. The concept of international-mindedness builds on these diverse perspectives to generate a sense of common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet.
End of Term Awards

School Holiday Seuss Fun
Our 48 week children had a magical time during our school holiday program. The children and staff explored a different Dr Seuss book each day and enjoyed varied activities and experiences - embracing their inner Dr Seuss!
From experimenting with oobleck, to eating green eggs (pancakes) and turning a table upside on Wacky Wednesday. As well as creating animal prints and considering what pet we would like at home - the holidays had it all.
After reading The Cat in the Hat, the children engaged in a deep conversation, guided by thought provoking questions... Should the children have trusted the Cat or listened to their mother? How important is it to tidy up our environment after we make a mess? Should the children tell their mother what they did during the day? It was great to witness the children responding with good understandings of being safe, trusted, responsible and honest.
Hats, Hats, Hats
Our SunSmart policy states that all children and staff are required to wear hats when outside from August to May each year. Please ensure your child has a clearly labelled hat each day and support them in applying sunscreen when they arrive in the morning.
ELC Facebook
Holy Trinity ELC now has a Facebook page, which we encourage you to follow. We will post updates, reminders and share some of the wonderful learning experiences that our children get up to.

‘RENEWING OUR PARISH TOGETHER’
Time moves on. Trite but true. True for each of us and true for our parish.
I arrived in the parish in January 2018. In June that year we had a Parish Assembly. The aim was the formation of a new Parish Pastoral Council and renewal of the Parish Finance Council. Those aims were realised and good things happened.
Then in 2020 COVID hit. After consultation, we consolidated all parish liturgies at Holy Trinity and more recently we leased Ss Peter and Paul Church to the Latin Mass Community of Canberra. For some years the Parish Finance Council have been in discussion with Marymead-CatholicCare (the Archdiocese’s social welfare arm) to construct, with the support of the ACT Government, 50+affordable housing units on the site of the presbytery and parish office. The hope is to commence construction in 2026; the location of the presbytery and parish office are yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, in 2021 and 2022 the Australian Church held the two sessions of the Plenary Council, the decrees of which will be ratified next year following the second session in October of the international ‘Synod on Synodality’ (‘Walking Together’) called by Pope Francis. Archbishop Christopher is keen for the discernment model foundational to ‘synodality’ to permeate all aspects of Church life in our archdiocese. He called for a ‘Year of the Holy Spirit’ which will culminate in an in- person and online Archdiocesan Assembly from 18-20 October.
Locally, your Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), under the title of Renewing Our Parish Together, will seek to engage with you by way of conversations and a parish expo prior to the Archdiocesan Assembly and then a Parish Assembly of our own on Sunday, 17 November. The PPC will be assisted by Philomena (‘Phil’) Billington, a native of the archdiocese and a nationally recognised pastoral consultant and educator.
In view of these proposals, today’s Gospel could not be more appropriate. Jesus fails to evoke a response of faith in those from his home town. Jesuit Scripture scholar Brendan Byrne comments: “The episode shows that the greatest enemy to faith can simply be “familiarity’: a refusal to believe that God’s presence and God’s power could come to us in so familiar a form as the person next door”. Or next to you in the pew. To be clear Nazareth was an insignificant town (cf. John 1:46), but here the Son of God became human. “Perhaps we have to identify and name “the Nazareth” in our own selves” (ibid).
I invite you to join me in praying for a deeper awareness of God’s presence in our lives. There is much graced experience and wisdom in our parish. The PPC will seek to build on that at the end of this month. More to come!

Community Council update (previously P&F) |
The Community Council will be meeting in Week 3 Tuesday August 6 to discuss upcoming events and other school community business. We understand the transition in structure and name has caused some confusion. We are happy to confirm that the Community Council will undertake the same role as the P&F within the school community. The Community Council remains a group of parents, carers and friends who support the school through fundraising, uniform shop, canteen and other activities. Getting involved with the Community Council is a great way to meet new people and contribute as little or as much as you like to our school community! We look forward to welcoming you all to our meeting in Week 3. if you would like to get involved please email htpspfpresident@gmail.com. |
Coordinator needed for our Food Bank |
The Community Council runs the Food Bank program, which provides freezer-friendly meals to families within the school community needing a little more support in their lives. It’s an anonymous program and is a wonderful service for many in our community. Food bank is used by many families who have experienced times when they were unable to cook at home for any reason from welcoming newborns, illness or injury, to times when life just throws in a hurdle too big. We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to be the Coordinator of the Food Bank program! The role is minimal effort, ensuring there is food in the freezer within date, and requesting donations of freezer-friendly meals from the school community when required. If you are interested in the role, please contact Courtney via email htpspfpresident@gmail.com. |
Uniform Shop |
The Uniform Shop is open on Tuesday mornings in the odd weeks of school term from 8:30am to 9:00 am. If you are unable to attend the Uniform Shop in person, please place an order through Qkr! App and niform orders will be delivered to your child’s class. P&F Contacts: Uniform Shop Volunteer Coordinators |
