Dear families and carers,
It was wonderful to see the students sharing their learning across our classrooms this week as families came through for Learning Journeys. Witnessing students speak with confidence about the growth they have made this year, and celebrating work they feel proud of was a pleasure to see. Many students celebrated their growth in relation to the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning.
The IB approaches to learning skills (ATL) are grounded in the belief that learning how to learn is fundamental to a student’s life in and out of a school context. In broad terms the PYP framework supports learners in developing:
- Thinking skills
- Communication skills
- Research skills
- Self-management skills
- Social skills
Through a variety of strategies, our teachers collaboratively plan for implicit and explicit opportunities to develop ATL both inside and outside the classroom.
Tournament of Minds
Last weekend our 6 teams represented Holy Trinity with enthusiasm and confidence. The students were able to present their solutions to the challenges and worked collaboratively in the team spontaneous challenge. A special thanks to the parents who supported their learners on the weekend, to Mrs Groom who was a judge, and to Mr Tom O'Rourke for his passion and dedication to this co curricular program.
Disco
DJ Feerick is warming up his turntable for our School Disco on Thursday September 26. Please purchase your ticket on QKR.
Grandparents Day
Next Friday September 20 at 9.15am we will be celebrating all our grandparents and special friends. We will begin with a Prayer Celebration in the school hall, visit classrooms and finish with a delicous morning tea in the Kitchen Garden. We look forward to seeing all our grand parents and friends for this wonderful event.
Year 6 Microbits
Year 6 students have been inquiring into how we can save energy at school through their current Unit of Inquiry 'Sharing the Planet'. Students observed appliances around the school such as heaters and lights and programmed microbits in small groups to measure the temperature and lighting in order to create ways to save energy. The Year 6 students then shared their ideas with Year 4 explaininh how the microbits work and the coding process.
Tomorrow we will celebrate the learning in 3W with assembly in the hall at 2:30pm.
Today marks national RU OK day? Please reach out to those around you to ask this simple question. Have a fantasitc weekend when it arrives.

Sacrament of First Eucharist – Retreat Day
Last Friday our Year 4 students from Holy Trinity, Sts Peter and Paul and candidates from other parish schools participated in our First Eucharist Retreat Day. It was a wonderful day of prayer and reflection preparing these students to receive this Sacrament. Students reflected on the origins of the Passover meal and Jesus’ Last Supper that he shared with his disciples. Thank you to our parish Youth Ministers, Claire & Olivia, as well as our Year 4 teachers from Holy Trinity & Sts Peter and Paul for their support in facilitating this day.

School Holiday Program
The Early Learning Centre currently has a small number of casual places available for current ELC students to join us during the upcoming school holidays. Building on our current Unit of Inquiry which is focussing on living things and what they need to survive (and our visit to the National Zoo and Aquarium earlier in the term), we are excited by the possibility of collaboratively creating our very own Holy Trinity Zoo. We are preparing our guiding questions and then it will be over to the children to share ideas, collaborate, imagine, and create!
What does a zoo need? Where can we find more information about ______? How will we decide what should go into our zoo? How will we construct it? What resources will we need to gather? How will we work together to create our zoo?
Please contact the ELC to check availability and book your child in!
Mountain of Mulch
Our mulch has now been moved into our playground and we are loving it. Thank you to the wonderful Griffiths, Lowe, Johnson, and Shirley families for chipping in to get the project completed - we truly appreciate your efforts!
ELC Facebook
Holy Trinity ELC now has a Facebook page, which we encourage you to follow. We will post updates, reminders and share some of the wonderful learning experiences that our children get up to.

Last Friday, our Year 5/6 students showcased their tennis talent at the Wally Masur Southside Gala Day, hosted by Canberra Grammar. Competing with enthusiasm and skill, two of our teams made it to the grand final. The event organisers were especially impressed by the high level of play and the outstanding sportsmanship our students displayed throughout the day. It was a wonderful day of tennis, fun, and teamwork. Congratulations to all the players for representing our school so well!
Last Weekend Ethan in Year 2 travelled to Wollongong to compete in the Wollongong Brazilian Jui jitsu Open, and won a gold medal in his divison. Congratualtions Ethan!
